A one-owner, 51,000 mile Jaguar XJ5.3C. Only 1855 V12 versions were originally made, and with this model being under-appreciated for many years, a large number fell by the wayside. According to DVLA records, there are now less than 120 still registered in the UK! It was described by Motor magazine in-period as “A World-Beater”. This was due to its effortless V12 engine, also described in period as the finest production engine in the world, and astonishing refinement, particularly given its “pillarless” construction.
This car was bought in 1976 by its first owner after being initially registered by a Jaguar dealer as a demonstrator. These cars had a waiting list and were difficult to get hold of when new, so he bought the car in its original color combination of Regency Red with black leather. Factory options included chrome side strips, climate control air conditioning, and “Kent” alloy wheels. The body deteriorated (as 1970’s Jaguars did), so in 1983 the car was completely bodily restored to the highest standard using original Jaguar panels. The opportunity was taken at this time to change the colour to black, which was the colour the owner would have originally liked, but could not find for the aforementioned reasons. During this restoration, every cavity and panel was treated with Zeibart, which is why the body is still pristine today. All the usual suspect areas have been checked and found to be excellent, including the very vulnerable rear quarter panels (due to water draining from the rear quarter windows). The car has just undergone a very thorough re-commissioning with too much work to list but including:-
-Restoration of highly complex climate control operating system
-New ignition system
-Full brakes overhaul inc new hoses/discs/calipers
-Fuel tanks overhauled
Apart from the headlining, the original leather interior from 1976 is fantastic, with perfect wood on the dashboard and VERY slight wear on the driver’s eat. Also included is the original full book pack, including wallet. Probably a unique opportunity to purchase a superb one-owner examlpe of a 1970’s icon. Now being UK registered with a fresh MOT.
