1973 Ferrari Dino 246GTS “Chairs n Flares”
The Dino GTS is itself an iconic model- the first-ever mid-engined Ferrari that offered wind-in-the-hair motoring; a concept so successful that it’s formed a Ferrari staple to this day, nearly 50 years on.
This car, however, is something very special indeed. It is one of only seven factory- original “Chairs & Flares” examples of the 246GTS built in RHD. The original order and supplying invoice from Ferrari show that the owner specified seats with “Daytona” inserts (chairs) and wider (71/2”) Campagnolo wheels which necessitated wider wheelarches (flares). It’s this combination that makes these cars highly coveted and clearly extremely rare. Many Dino owners have modified their cars to emulate this, and some Dinos had either the seat or wheel option from new, but the “sweet spot” combination is what makes it truly special. Ferrari Classiche certification in the large history file provides complete reassurance that this is one of the seven such cars.
The car has been recently restored to a very high standard by a Name restorer in the UK, and is finished in its factory original colour of Nero. It drives beautifully.
This is perhaps the ultimate iteration of Ferrari’s iconic Dino, and with any of these seven cars very rarely coming to market, potentially worthy to enter even the most important and considered collection.
